ABOUT MEMystery Jig Studios is me, Troy R. Bennett. In addition to working as a freelance wedding and portrait photographer, I'm a staff shooter at The Times Record , a daily newspaper in Brunswick, Maine. I have received awards for my photography and writing from the New England Newspaper Association, the Maine Press Association and the Associated Press. I serve on the board of the Maine Press Association and maintain a studio above historic State Theatre in the heart of Portland's Arts District. In 2000 I graduated from the University of Southern Maine, earning an honors BA in English with a concentration in Anglo-Irish literature and I spent time studying in Galway, Ireland. Go ahead, ask me anything about Yeats' early poetry or James Joyce's Ulysses . It'll make my day. I play banjo and guitar in the successful HALF MOON JUG BAND, which tours regionally, an the Irish fiddle and guitar duo BAILEY'S MISTAKE. I'm a die-hard Red Sox nut and I'm currently rehabilitating a 133-year-old house in Portland with my wife, Kris and our little white dog named Hook, who serves as our supervisor. The name Mystery Jig comes from a fiddle tune I learned from Fiddlin' Phil from Munjoy Hill. Phil couldn't remember the name, and the mystery was born. |
